At nine acres, the park will form the connective tissue of Oakridge Park, uniting all programs and user groups across the site, while weaving nature into the lives of residents and visitors. The park at Oakridge Park will be accessible, with convenient paths connecting access points and major destinations, such as the community centre. The park concept proposes six connected spaces, each with its own identity. It will include a one-kilometre running loop, community gardens, and playgrounds.
Cultural Hub
Oakridge Park will be Vancouver’s cultural hub. Culture is the manifestation of life itself. It’s the crossroads of dance, music, film, festivals, art, architecture, fashion, design, landscape, nature, horticulture, botany, gastronomy, literature, diversity, gaming, technology, math, science, travel and much more.
For over six decades, Oakridge has consistently been one of the top performing shopping centres in North America. With the expansion and investment now being undertaken, Oakridge Park will become the top performing retail offering on the continent and among a handful of the world’s great retail experiences.
Inspired by the great traditional food halls of Europe and the more contemporary ones in Asia, the Food Hall at Oakridge Park aspires to be a destination for global cuisine. At approximately 54,000 square feet, this is more than just a food hall, this is an opportunity to stitch together one of the world’s most multicultural cities. The Food Hall at Oakridge Park will represent a culinary paradigm shift. Grand and welcoming in nature, the hall will be filled with sun from skylights above and a wall of windows opening into what will soon be Vancouver’s favourite park. This will be the beating heart of the entire community – the beautiful, lively setting for Vancouver’s kitchen party.
We have a longstanding commitment to live music – the essential, personal performance that goes beyond passive entertainment. We believe music has the ability to both inspire and contribute to our wellbeing. With six indoor and outdoor live-music venues, Oakridge Park performance spaces will rival those in any of the world’s cultural centres.
Centre
The Oakridge Park Community Centre is envisioned as the cultural anchor for the neighbourhood, as much a public square as a building. Designed to operate seven days a week as a multi-use centre branching off from the main lobby, its dynamic range of programs, services and activities will cater to the unique needs of the Oakridge Park community. Amenities include athletic and community meeting facilities, a library, a daycare centre, cultural spaces and youth services.
Wellness, narrowly, is the state of being in good health. In planning Oakridge Park, we have expanded that definition to embrace and promote the complete range of physical, mental, and social wellbeing that is required to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. We have considered every Oakridge Park service and feature with an eye to this holistic approach to wellness, from the park, the gyms, and the running loop, to the integration of nature, the onsite agriculture, and the adoption of meaningful sustainability measures.
Through a neighbourhood energy system created and operated by Oakridge Energy (a 50/50 partnership between Corix and Creative Energy), a heat recovery system leveraging synergies between uses, a geoexchange field and low-carbon electric boilers, Oakridge Park is estimated to produce 72% less overall Greenhouse Gas emissions than a comparable project. The reductions achieved by Oakridge Park will be equivalent to planting 160,000 trees annually or taking 1,300 cars off the road.
As a permanent institution at Oakridge Park, Goh Ballet will leverage unparalleled new facilities to combine dance, education and performance into a world-class performing arts centre. Goh Ballet and its students will make a significant contribution to the way people express, view and enjoy art day-to-day at Oakridge Park.
The future of mobility is being rewritten as we speak. This is affecting all aspects of society, from how we build our cities to how we live our lives. In thinking about mobility at Oakridge Park, we committed at the outset to take full advantage of this disruption.
For those who prefer to drive their own vehicles or soon potentially be autonomously driven in their own car, Oakridge Park will offer an unprecedented range of options and services. Looking to the future, Oakridge Park is concentrating on three themes, electrification, automation and shared mobility, but from day one, the automobile experience will be defined by convenience and flexibility.
